Since the beginning of our production 41 years ago, the responsibility with the community, workers, shareholders and the Government has been a constant.
In 2007, the company issued the Corporate Gobernance Code, which means a commitment to fortify corporate culture, principles and policies that guard the investors’ rights and keep an ethic flow of the information and management under clear ways of performance without interest conflicts.
We are convinced of the importance of the human talent and during 2007 Enka de Colombia S.A signed a contract with the firm “Great Place to Work” to make a survey inside the organization about the labor atmosphere, which final results gave us a guide to improve important points.
Our engage policy is focusing to hire people from the nearby region like Girardota and the other neighboring towns. At the end of 2007, Enka de Colombia S.A counts with 846 direct jobs, 370 persons throught cooperatives and 6000 indirect jobs.
Enka de Colombia S.A believes in the future of Colombia and this is the reason why during 2007 gave education aid to the workers’ families for a total ammount for US$500,000 and covering more than 1200 people.
In addition, the company stablished several training and education programs for the workers with the purpose to increase their personal growing and developing. One of those remarkable programs was the Participating Circles and Autonomous Groups.
Besides the educational programs, housing occupies a central place in the people’s needs.Thus, in 2007 Enka de Colombia S.A’s Housing Fund granted loans for a total ammount of US$240,000 which benefited 53 workers. At the present time, 93% of our people have their own house.
The Company provides to its workers and excellent food service for all the shifts plus a comfortable and safe transport service. Last year, these services had a cost of US$500,000.
Another vey important wellbeing factor is health and the Company paid US$470,000 for health plans, including all the employements and their family groups.
Other important programs like Children Painting Festival, Christmas Gifts for the workers’ childs and family visits to the plant , contributed to bring near and fortify the belonging sense of our people and their families.
Safety always is first and during 2007, the Company made many risk prevention programs in the fields of health, labor accidents and diseases. One of the most remarkable programs was the Firefighters Brigade and its noble duty to serve and protect the life of our people and community.
Finally, during 2007 the Company paid USD $ 12 million in taxes, USD $ 2.5 million in social security and USD $ 1 million in other payroll related items.
