This project is pivotal for the growth strategy of Enka, consolidating its recycling leadership in Colombia and a beacon worldwide.
Committed to the Circular Economy, the Board of Directors of Enka de Colombia approved an investment in a new EKO®PET production plant. This is a resin manufactured from recycled PET bottles used for food-grade packages. This project is fundamental for Enka’s growth strategy, consolidating its recycling leadership in Colombia and a beacon worldwide.
The new plant’s capacity shall be 24,000 tons/year and it is expected to be in operation in the year 2022. With this investment, Enka turns into one of the major Bottle-to-Bottle PET plants worldwide, reaching a total capacity of 42,000 tons of EKO® PET a year.
In addition, this new investment will allow the Company to double its collection levels, to 63,500 tons of post-consumption bottles a year, significantly improving the recycling rates of Colombia, and providing great benefits to the environment and to the sector.
